COLMAN'S
6.30.2009
12:00am
We just left London this morning and are in Portsmouth tripping out over this great English mustard called Colman's. woah........we're spreading it all over cheeses, meats wrapped around bread (that's right, around the bread), and dipping crisps in it.
I'm listening to Amadou and Mariam right now on my headphones. We got a chance to hear them live as we walked 2 miles back to our car from the stage we played at Glastonbury, thru the mud, and the crowd, with all of our gear clutched in our arms, in the rain. Yea.....I respect anyone who camps out and does the Glastonbury thing for 4 days straight. First of all, I've never seen anything so MASSIVE as this festival. It makes Coachella look like a backyard get-together. I think I'm becoming more and more of a germaphobe these days. And as I saw people in poo stalls that were totally open at the bottom, and I saw all kinds of legs and pants and underwear pulled down around their ankles, it made me smile, but it also scared me. So...unfortunately, I didn't get to stick around to see much music while we were there. We went to stone henge instead, and I kept singing Spinal Tap's "Stone Henge". It was so cool! From the road, it looks sort of small. But when you get up close, it's really impressive and magical.
Our first gig on the tour was in Hyde Park. I waited by the stage for Neil Young to walk on. Little did I know, he was totally hanging out in the area where my dressing room was while I was stalking the stage. But anyway, he finally walked by. There were a few other people standing with me with the same idea. And it was like the president was walking by. There was this stillness in the area. No sudden movements. Just respect. He stood behind the stage, sipping his beer. Then he said, "Alright, I'm ready to go." He walked on stage and we heard thousands of voices start to cheer. My favorite Neil show ever. He played all the hits. It was hard to leave. He still rocks up there on stage. And for those of you who don't know, and didn't get it yet.....Neil Young is my hero. I found out, for his encore, Paul McCartney came out and sang "A Day In The Life" with Neil. shit man!!! Before Neil played, the Fleet Foxes blew us all away with their harmonies and songs. And I ran into my friends Jonny Flaugher and Josh Radin. small world. oh yea, and i think i donated the first ever kazoos to the Hard Rock Hall Of Fame.
Ok....don't want to bore you with too much show information. We are in portsmouth right now. And for all the Catan lovers out there, I love port cities, because I can trade 2 sheep for ore. Alright, I gotta eat some more mustard, and get on stage.
Tomorrow, Amsterdam. :)
Love,
p. ahn
p.s. I'm on twitter now. i'm SO new to it, so like, I don't even know how one would find me on there. I'm sure you'd know better than me if you really wanted to find me.
pps... tickets are on sale for my u.s. tour in august. yay!!!
ppps....i just randomly found out that billy mays passed away just a few days ago, at the age of 50! Holy crap. what a week....
